Rough Idea- Horror Story Board

This is a rough story board for a potential idea we had for our horror film.

Pan's Labyrinth- Analysis

Pan's Labyrinth Opening Clip (Spanish..)

The clip opens with a black background with text. There is non-diegetic music playing which is quite creepy and low, which gives a scary portrayal of the film which is associated with that of the horror genre. There is also diegetic sounds of heavy breathing which gives a scary impression to the audience. When the clip cuts to the next scene, the lighting is very dark, and only the young girl can be seen. She is very pale and almost glows against the darkness, which gives the impression that she is the protagonist of the film especially as the camera focuses on her for a longer period of time. This scene then cuts to another setting, which shows what I presume to be a city of some sort. It is shown in  very dark lighting and appears to be surrounded by mist which re-in forces the perception of the horror genre.

The Shining- Analysis

The Shining Opening Clip

The clip opens with landscape aerial shots of very isolated, yet picturesque landscapes. That teamed with the eerie non-diegetic sound playing gives the impression that the film is a horror, but because the audience don't see any violence during the opening clip, we can possible rule out a slasher horror-type film. Even though the landscapes are filmed during the daytime, there is a lot of shadow so the lighting looks quite dark, giving a sinister portrayal of the settings. Because the opening clip contains a lot of isolated landscapes, we can assume that the particular setting for the film will also be in an isolated area.

No characters are introduced in the first 2 minutes, but it does show a car travelling through a number of different places continuously, which gives the impression that the character(s) are travelling a great distance.
